This is a picture of the other side of the tree and propped-up limbs behind the birdfeeder. Some volunteer sunflowers came up again, but not nearly as robust as they did in 2000.
The Honeysuckle and other vines that I planted in the previous year were just barely becoming visible at this point. I'm looking forward to seeing them spread all over the propped-up limbs and branches.
The white plastic bird bath which started off this Birdie Sanctuary finally broke. The hole was in the basin, so any water in there would just pour right out through it. But I was able to find a new plastic bird bath just like it. Five bucks at the Dollar General store; not bad. Let's see... that first bird bath lasted from 1996 to 2003; seven years. I'd say I got my five bucks worth out of that one.
With the new bird bath, I got a bit smarter, though. This time I filled the hollow base with gravel instead of water. That made much heavier, but that's okay. There were no plans brewing in my mind to move it from that spot, anyway.

For 2003, I want to work on getting more pictures of the birds. With the additional perching space, more of them come to the feeder. If a cat comes prowling around, they just move a little higher and wait until the feline departs. They don't have to go far to get out of a cat's reach and as soon as the cat gives up, they simply hop back down to the feeder.
Well, that's enough for this page. I did do some additional 3d Stereo Photos of the Birdie Sanctuary in 2003, by the way. If you care to check it out, go to my 3D Stereographic project web site. Bear in mind, however, that I've got a megar bandwidth allowance at that site. So if you get the "Daily Bandwidth Allocation Exceeded" page there, just bookmark the site and come back to look at it earlier the next day.
